The Upper Saranac Foundation (USF) is encouraging area residents to help protect our waters this summer by sharing vital information about aquatic invasive species (AIS) prevention with friends and guests. As welcoming hosts, we all play a role in encouraging visitors to arrive invasive-free.
While most Upper Saranac Lake homeowners’ boats remain on the lake and pose little risk, the same may not be true for visiting guests who bring watercraft from other locations. To support your efforts, USF—working in partnership with the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program—is providing electronic and printed copies of the Protect Your Waters from AIS brochure for distribution.
It’s important that all watercraft owners—whether residents, renters, or guests—are aware that New York State law requires motorboat operators within the Adirondack Park to carry a certificate verifying their vessel is free of harmful aquatic invasive species. These Watercraft Inspection Certificates are issued by Adirondack Watershed Stewards after a free boat inspection or decontamination.
Starting on Memorial Day, a network of strategically located Watershed Steward Inspection and Decontamination Stations will be operational across the Adirondacks. Locations and hours of operation can be found here.
Let’s work together to promote the CLEANED, DRAINED, and DRIED standard of protection, emphasizing the importance of preserving our water quality for current and future generations.

Thank you for standing with us to protect Upper Saranac Lake—your support helps ensure its health and beauty for years to come.
