The Upper Saranac Foundation recently joined the “Sips and Science: Love Our Lakes” event held at the Hotel Saranac, celebrating a shared commitment to protecting Adirondack waters. The free community event was well attended by lake stewards, scientists, families, and residents from across the Park, all eager to learn more about how to care for the lakes we love.
A strong contingent of Upper Saranac folks turned out to support the event and connect with regional partners in lake protection. Organized by the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP), the Adirondack Watershed Institute (AWI), and the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation, Sips and Science brought together eight nonprofit organizations that share a mission of keeping Adirondack waterbodies healthy—including the Upper Saranac Foundation.
The evening began in the hotel’s grand ballroom, where attendees explored interactive displays and hands-on learning opportunities on identifying invasive species, protecting loon habitat, and maintaining water quality. Presentations from APIPP, AWI, and the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation followed, offering insights into key threats to our lakes such as invasive species, harmful algal blooms, and lead contamination affecting loons.
The event also marked the official release of the new “Love Your Lakes” brochure, highlighting eight simple actions individuals can take to safeguard local waters—a resource that encourages everyone to become better stewards of the Adirondack environment.
Families enjoyed interactive activities hosted by The Wild Center, including a children’s drawing contest celebrating lake life, reinforcing the idea that protecting our lakes begins with connecting to them at an early age.
Events like Sips and Science strengthen collaboration among organizations working to protect the Adirondacks’ most precious resource—our lakes. The Upper Saranac Foundation is proud to be part of this network of partners and to contribute to the shared goal of ensuring clean, healthy, and resilient waterways for all to enjoy.
