Join us on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 6:30 PM for a free webinar exploring wake boat usage and its environmental impacts on Adirondack lakes. Wake surfing and wake boarding are growing in popularity, but the boats used for these activities can create significant concerns for lake stewards, shoreline property owners, and local communities.
This webinar will explain what defines a “wake boat,” examine the environmental impacts associated with their use, discuss proposed remedies, and outline a path forward for local municipalities in the Adirondacks.
Laura Dlugolecki of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation will share her experience implementing wake boat operation restrictions in 2024 and discuss how collaboration with the wake boat community supported successful rollout of the new regulations. Scott Ireland, Executive Director of the Adirondack Lakes Alliance, will present on proposed Adirondack lake restrictions and provide context on the rapid growth of wake sports in the Park and the importance of community education around responsible use.
This free webinar is co-sponsored by the Adirondack Lakes Alliance, Adirondack Council, Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation, Adirondack Watershed Institute, Protect the Adirondacks!, and the Upper Saranac Foundation.
