The Upper Saranac Foundation is thrilled to announce that the Town of Santa Clara was awarded a $598,800 grant through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (NYDEC) Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) program. This funding was secured with the valuable application assistance provided by the Upper Saranac Foundation.
The WQIP program is a highly competitive, statewide reimbursement grant initiative that supports projects aimed at improving water quality and habitats, reducing flood risks, enhancing climate resiliency, and protecting drinking water sources.
The grant will fund the construction of a long-needed salt storage facility to cover the town’s currently exposed salt pile. This project will protect groundwater in a principal aquifer and help safeguard the health of Upper Saranac Lake. It represents a significant step forward in our mission to preserve and enhance the water quality of the Upper Saranac Watershed.
