May in the Adirondacks marks the long-awaited return of the boating and swimming season. As docks go in and camps come to life, we are reminded of our collective responsibility for safeguarding our waters for future generations. The Upper Saranac Foundation serves as a trusted voice in water quality advocacy, providing the knowledge and resources needed to ensure a healthy watershed.
This year, USF is expanding its education efforts to include science-backed responsible boating practices. Wake sports—one of the fastest-growing recreational activities—can have significant impacts on lake ecosystems, other recreational users, and shoreline stability. As their popularity grows, USF encourages everyone to “Have a Heart, Be Wake Smart.” Stay tuned for more!
Throughout the summer, the Foundation will promote Wake Smart initiatives as well as other lake-friendly practices through mailings, signage, newsletters, and social media. These outreach efforts offer practical strategies that property owners and visitors can easily adopt to help protect water quality and preserve our investments.
The Upper Saranac Foundation continues to promote essential water stewardship practices, including preventing the spread of invasive species, managing wastewater effectively, protecting shorelines, and reducing stormwater runoff to help prevent algae blooms.
