The Adirondack Lakes Alliance (ALA) will host its Annual Symposium on Friday, June 27, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Paul Smith’s College Visitor Interpretive Center. This highly anticipated gathering brings together lake association members, scientists, policymakers, and concerned citizens to focus on protecting the ecological health and recreational value of Adirondack lakes and rivers.
The symposium will feature a full day of presentations and workshops, with expert insights on climate change, invasive species management, water quality infrastructure, and legislative updates. Guest speakers include:
- Dr. Kevin Rose – Aquatic Ecology Professor at RPI and Director of the Jefferson Project, who will share groundbreaking data on lake ecosystems and climate impacts.
- Bob Hauserman – President of the Paradox Lake Association, reflecting on 17 years of hands-on invasive species management.
- David Miller – Clean Water Program Coordinator at the Adirondack Council, discussing septic systems and infrastructure needs.
- Brett Wimsatt – Aquatic Invasive Program Director, Adirondack Watershed Institute, providing an update on the Watershed Stewardship Program.
- Senator Mark Walczyk, Assemblymember Billy Jones, and Assemblymember Matt Simpson – with legislative updates impacting Adirondack waters.
“We are excited about this year’s lineup of speakers,” said Scott Ireland, ALA President. “People tend to be spread far apart in the great Adirondacks and we hope getting together to share information leaves people feeling more prepared to look after their lakes.”
The Adirondack Lakes Alliance was founded to support local lake and river associations across the Adirondack Park. By fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge, ALA empowers communities to take action on environmental issues that threaten our cherished waters.
