Join the Upper Saranac Foundation and lake advocates from across the Adirondacks at the Adirondack Lakes Alliance (ALA) 10th Annual Symposium on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM at the Paul Smith’s College Visitor Interpretive Center.
This year’s symposium theme, “Adirondack Lakes in Focus: Challenges, Solutions and Shared Stewardship,” reflects the belief that protecting Adirondack waters requires collaboration across the Park. Our lakes, rivers, and watersheds are interconnected, and the actions we take on one waterbody can have far-reaching impacts on others.
The symposium will feature presentations on some of the most important issues facing Adirondack waters. Dave Fadden of the Six Nations Iroquois Cultural Center will discuss Indigenous history and stewardship through his new book, First Adirondackers. Laura Dlugolecki of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation will share Vermont’s experience regulating wake boat use, while Sarah Goodrich of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will provide updates on harmful algal blooms (HABs). Attendees will also hear from a panel of experts discussing aquatic invasive species management strategies across the region, including Upper Saranac Foundation Executive Director Guy Middleton.
The program will also include legislative updates from Assemblymen Michael Cashman and Matt Simpson, as well as opportunities to connect with lake association leaders, scientists, and community members dedicated to protecting Adirondack waters.
Lunch and a networking social hour are included.
